Coffee Brewing and Coffee Info Administrator 7:55 am
I respect that many of my customers brew their coffee in a manner that I dislike immensely (auto drip.) I am aware of the speed and ease of that brewing method. It does not do Incredible Coffee justice but it does give you a fresh, hot mug of coffee in a pinch. Sometimes, time is of the essence. However, I am baffled by the use of the Keurig System that so many are using. In these times of rising land fills, I ask “why?” This process only makes one serving at a time and leaves the rest of us to deal with the many little plastic cups that will sit around on the earth for years to come. Is it that difficult to use a permanent filter in your already existing sub-standard auto drip maker? Please take a moment to rethink this choice.
I have also been asked, many times, why I do not carry “fair trade” coffee beans. I would love to share why. The price of coffee has risen over the years. Fair trade beans are even more expensive. The idea behind fair trade is that there exists a middle party who actually insures that the farm workers are paid a “fair” wage and treated “well.” I have yet to see proof that this “middle man” exists. Why would I deny the farms I do purchase from business and jeopardize the jobs of the workers? I love the premise behind fair trade. When there is a government sanction that oversees the well being of the workers in these remote countries, I will reconsider.
Enjoy your coffee but be mindful of our cluttered earth!
