Brew Great Tasting Coffee–My Tips Tuesday, Feb 27 2007

Customers ask me all the time the best way to brew their freshly roasted coffee. I have tested many methods and am happy to share my findings.

It is unanimous that the coffee press produces a very nice brewed coffee. The coffee press is relatively inexpensive (under $20 depending on the size.) Bodum presses are great. The disadvantage is that you have to bring a kettle of water to almost boiling and then let the coffee steep for 5 minutes. Not everyone wants to take the time to wait and actively participate. This is understandable when you are half awake and rushing in the morning.

The Vacuum coffee maker is superb. Again, there is a stove top model that takes your time and attention. However, there is an electric version. I use this in the morning. You simply measure your fresh water, grind your fresh beans and let the Vaccum pot do the rest. The results taste mighty nice. The least expensive model is made once again by Bodum.

I have nothing against automatic drip coffee makers UNLESS you have one with a hot plate. The brewed coffee sits on the heating element and gets thick and bitter. There are so many new machines that brew directly into a thermal carafe or into a travel mug. The prices vary but it is not necessary to spend a fortune.

I also make myself fresh cappuccino with my Mukka pot. This is fun. It is a stove top espresso machine that steams your milk at the same time. I have a lot of fun with this when I have company (ok, I also humor myself with this gadget.) The Mukka pot is made by Bialetti and will not cost an arm and a leg.

It goes without saying that whichever method you choose to use, the results will be superior if you use fresh roasted coffee by Saratoga Roasters! Simply follow this link and you are on your way to making Incredible Coffee!
